The local

24-year-old Jenny is a part time student working two jobs in wellington. She spends her free time looking to play, learn and socialize.
Jenny needs a way to socialize with friends in a comforting environment, one that has opportunities to be playful and hands on with the opportunity to share the experience with others.
Surprising Te Papa doesn’t provide a comforting, homely space for locals to share in experiences and socialize; a hub that captures wellingtons community or culture.

(playful, comforting, socializing, homely, cozy)

Couch surfer

Sally is a female traveller, 23-years old. She is interested in the wider world and its diversities. She needs a chance to connect and get to know other locals. But surprisingly Te Papa does not facilitate new social interactions with locals.

(Connecting with locals)

Nomad

Alice is 20 years old female with a passion to actively seek out new discoveries within culture and community. She needs to feel empowered and to be independent to make her own choices. But Surprisingly Te papa is more about feeding you information rather than taking you on a journey of discovery.
Te papa feels static and hasn’t changed since she was young, as if she has seen it all already.

(Narrative, power of choice, journey, independence)

Long distant relationship

James is 22 working in Australia but likes to visit his home of Wellington. His priority is work – but in his limited spare time, playing PlayStation at home or exploring amongst nature is his place to get engaged. He needs immersive experiences where he can feel engaged on a more intimate level.

But surprisingly:

...Does not provide new immersive experiences where you can loose yourself in an atmosphere.

…Te Papa’s more enticing exhibits are intimidating

…He finds himself in Te Papa just killing time without interest in the overload of information.

…He doesn’t know where to find this experience in Te Papa so ends up moping around, unengaged and killing time.

(Introverted, personal, atmosphere, hidden, place to chill)
