What people liked about it:
Interactive
Gets People off the street
Happening right now, don't have to plan to go
Involved in exhibition, co-creating
People enjoy seeing something they've made being displayed
Pop-up stall thing
You can do it elsewhere then go to Te papa
Collaborative, building on it
It's promotion but interactive and different
What people suggested about it
Facilitating activities, asking emotive questions or prompts
Provocations
Live stream to Te Papa/what is the time between making the art and seeing your work in Te Papa?
Sustained, not a one off but keeps going
Is it sustained or how to make it more sustainable
Move from different forms, changing (from street art to screen printing etc)
One off opportunity you don't want to miss
Is it announced beforehand?
Spontaneous - could be a vague announcement adds discovery/mystery
"today's a little bit different"
take to universities/schools (accessing Millennials/spaces where they hang out)
What would happen to the paintings after exhibitions?
Take a piece home because you partially created it?
would people paint over each others work? or would there be lots of individual paintings?
Repurposing into something else after exhibition- table? then donated?

First Idea
TePapa would set up small, unique pop-up exhibitions in alleyways and other places which could be unannounced. The exhibitions would be about smaller, unique things that would allow people to learn and contribute to something without going out of the way. It would act as a taster to an upcoming exhibition at TePapa to get people interested in the exhibitions and encourage them to visit TePapa. It would also help to change TePapa's brand identity in the eyes of the locals through them being different for once.
Our example was about two local millennials who were spending the day in town and were walking around. They turn down an alleyway and are surprised to find street art being made all over the walls. A TePapa representative approaches them and asks them if they would like to paint something and points out some amazing pieces done by local artists. They are given paints and a brochure and are told that it is a pop-up exhibition on street art, and it will be there all week and then will be documented and included in an upcoming exhibition on street art. They are excited by this and decide to paint something so they can go and see it in TePapa later.
The idea is centred around the ideas that:
- TePapa has more of a 'New Zealand feel' to it and doesn't feel like it incorporates Wellington culture into it at all so doesn't really appeal to locals.
- Although millennials might enjoy TePapa, there are a lot of thing they would rather do instead that are easier. TePapa takes a whole day to really explore.
- Apart from the paid exhibitions, TePapa hasn't changed in 17 years so locals feel like they have seen it all before, which they have. There isn't really any motivation or reason to return

Final 2 problem statements
We tried to flesh this problem statement out but decided, the problem is too generic:
Nomad
Needs: enlighten me, empower me, inspire me, activate me.
Laura is a Kiwi millennial who spends half of her time in Wellington and the other half travelling.
She likes to immerse herself in a city and discover the communities culture. When she returns home she like to see what new in Wellington.
She likes to immerse herself in a city and discover the communities culture. When she returns home she like to see what new in Wellington.
She needs refreshing new content on her journey to rediscover wellington as thrives on discovering whats new.
But surprisingly the exhibitions that can provide new experiences and content are not free. The longterm free exhibits are stale and she has seen then all before.
But surprisingly Te papa is more about feeding you information, it feels static and hasn’t changed since she was young, she has seen it all already.
Te Papa is boring
Hasn't change
not current
nothing new
one way dialogue
want to go because its free
doesn't want to pay to see the good stuff thats temporary- want to longterm to be changing and take her on a journey
(Narrative, power of choice, journey, independence, discovery)
Second choice:
The local
24-year-old Sally is a part time student working two jobs in wellington. She spends her free time looking to play, learn and socialize.
Jenny needs a way to socialize with friends in a comforting environment, one that has opportunities to be playful and hands on with the opportunity to share the experience with others.
Surprising Te Papa doesn’t provide a comforting, homely space for locals to share in experiences and socialize; a hub that captures wellingtons community or culture.
(Playful, comforting, socialising, homely, cozy)
Needs: connect me, comfort me, inspire me
